Course Description: Communication Studies 111: Directed research in the current intercollegiate debate topic; identification of issues, compilation of evidence, and case building.
Course Objectives:
Course Overview: Being a member of the debate team will maximize your participation in the learning process. We will have achieved our goals when you have increased your level of sophistication as a researcher and your ability to critically analyze and develop arguments. These goals can be successfully achieved through the application of the concepts and ideas we will explore in this course related to the competitive intercollegiate debate forum. A typical class session will involve extensive interaction. You will be expected to discuss ideas and concepts, participate in debates, conduct research, and practice effective communication habits. This high level of participation should both raise your awareness of critical argumentation and increase your level of skill as a communicator and a debater.
